Circulation Policy

LDS Business College Students

Identification

Your LDSBC ID is your library card.

Loan Period

Most library materials have a three-week loan period. Some materials have a shorter loan period based on the item, i.e. media, reserve. All materials, no matter when they are checked out, are due at the end of each semester.

Concurrent Item Limit

A limit of 25 items may be checked out simultaneously.

Renewals

Most materials may be renewed two times in person or by telephone. Telephone renewals are available by calling 524-8150. Reserve material cannot be renewed. Materials may not be renewed if another patron has placed a hold on that item.

Notices

One courtesy email reminder is sent seven days prior to each due date. A courtesy email notice is also sent when items are five days overdue. It is the individual patron’s responsibility to return or renew materials by the due date, even if a courtesy notice is not received. It is the student’s responsibility to check his/her College email account or forward it to an off-campus email.

Overdue Fines

25¢ per day for items in the general and media collections. 25¢ per hour during the first day for items in the reserve collection and one dollar a day thereafter. $2 a day for Nooks. Fines will accrue for thirty days on general collection materials and Nook and for fourteen days for reserve materials, at which time patrons will be billed the full replacement cost in addition to the overdue fine. Patrons are blocked when a fee over $3.00 is owed to the Library.

Billing

A bill for lost general and media collection library materials is sent when an item is more than 30 days overdue. A bill for lost reserve library materials is sent when an item is more than 14 days overdue. The billing notice includes the overdue fine and the replacement cost of the book. If an item is returned after it is billed, the patron will still be billed the cost of the overdue fine, but the replacement charge will be reversed if the item has not been repurchased.
The Library reserves the right to assess a charge for materials that are damaged, with a minimum of $5.00 but not to exceed the replacement cost of the item.

Recalls and Holds

Each patron is guaranteed to have an item for three weeks before it is eligible to be recalled for use by another patron. If, however, the item is needed for the next semester Course Reserve, it must be returned within 48 hours. A recall fine starting at $10 is assessed when a book is recalled from a patron and is not returned by the newly assigned due date. The recall fine increases each day the item is not returned based on the fine schedule.

Library Student Fines Appeal Procedure

Replacement costs for damaged or lost materials may not be appealed. Overdue fines and processing fees may be appealed by writing a letter addressed to:

Include your name, student ID number, complete mailing address, and a statement of the reason why you think the fines should be reduced or waived. The request will be reviewed by the Director of Library and Information Resources. Written notification of the decision will be mailed within two weeks.

Checkout Identification

Present a valid BYU card and verify current address and phone number

BYU Salt Lake Center students and faculty may not check out:
Items on Reserve
Items on Reading Lists
Greenhaven Press series i.e. Opposing Viewpoints, Current Controversies, At Issue etc.

Billing for Lost or Damaged Items

Identification

You must present a valid student ID card. If you are a student at a non-CES institution, you must also show a valid form of ID with your current mailing address.
